Out & About

We recently had a run of days where there were just so many good things packed into so little time. It started with our annual Cinco de Taco night with friends, continued with a lucky win of ACL live-taping tickets, and ended with a Saturday brunch, baby visit, and birthday party combo.
On one particularly odd night, I felt like I earned an Austin all-star status after opening the night at Uchi , hopping next to Lambert’s, and concluding the evening at ACL Live. The Uchi visit was to celebrate my sweet colleague, Jessica’s, bittersweet move to Arizona. After my lovely boss, Helen, who is an Uchi pro, helped us navigate through sampling the dishes, I am in disbelief that it took us four years to finally sit down for sushi here!
I then met up with Matt for second supper at Lambert’s during their amazing deal of a happy hour. After filling up on the world’s tastiest BBQ nachos, we crossed the street to the Moody Theatre to catch Shakey Graves host a super home-town concert. Our rave reviews for concerts here won’t soon be stopping. Free fun of that caliber is hard to find.
Saturday of the same week opened with grocery shopping at Whole Foods, conveniently walkable from our place, and of course, coffee and pastries at our favorite bakery, Bribery. Our weekend routine is usually what reminds us of why we are happy to have landed where we did, close to Matt’s office, accessible to family and friends in the northern suburbs, and right in the middle of a booming development.

Saturday also gave us the pleasure of finally meeting Miss Zoe Claire. Hearing how her sweet parents are doing after the big transition into a family of three and watching her proud guard dog Abby was a real delight. We then celebrated our friend Kaden’s birthday with an evening out in Cedar Park.
Just a few evenings later, Matt surprised me with a late-night date night at Justine's, one of the most romantic and interesting east Austin restaurants. The people watching is unmatched, and funky photo-ops help pass the time while you wait for a table or try to elbow out a space to eat at the bar. It was unbelievably busy for so late at night, but delicious and special all the same. Justine's snuck its way into my top five Austin restaurants.
There you have it- a whirlwind week that was too good to forget but too busy to remember without writing it down!
