Life in ATX

We have a lot of fun living in Austin! Here are a few pictures to highlight our favorite Austin events and hangouts that we have enjoyed so far in 2013.

I have been bugging Matt for months about wanting to go kayaking on Lady Bird Lake and a few weekends ago we finally went. We used The Rowing Dock (because of a recommendation), didn't have to wait at all, rowed West and enjoyed a perfect morning on the lake. It is pretty neat to live in a city that enjoys the outdoors so much and tries to offer a lot of activities. Our goal for the year is to really take advantage of these more than we have been.

We love having visitors in Austin! We love sharing our home with others and visitors give us a great excuse to frequent our favorite must-see places like Lake Austin, Mt. Bonnell, South Congress, Zilker Park, and all sorts of delicious restaurants and coffee shops. Earlier this year Matt's cousin Heidi and her husband Tyler came to stay with us. We had a fun weekend exploring town together, touring the Capitol, and getting caught up on life!

My mom and sister came for a day before I started my new job and before Natalie left for a semester overseas. They are great company for enjoying the great shopping in town and we ate lunch at our massive Whole Foods downtown.

While we don't have many professional sports in Austin, we occasionally get a chance to catch some really fun sporting events. We went with friends to a hockey game and had a blast. It helped that the game went into a shootout that lasted about 10 rounds! I found it ironic that despite living in Minnesota, the first hockey game I attended was in Texas instead.

One of our favorite areas in Austin is the Hyde Park neighborhood. We enjoy several of the shops there, but our favorite is Dolce Vita, a gelateria and coffee shop. It is a prime people watching location.

We really love going to the movies, and in Austin, Alamo Drafthouse is our theatre of choice. We get there early because the Drafthouse always puts together clips, interviews, cartoons, and montages that fit the theme of the movie. They have a pretty tasty menu, a strictly enforced no texting and talking rule, and you reserve your seats ahead of time.

Austin does music and food well. One of my favorite events this year was a private cheese tasting with my company at Atonelli's. I would absolutely recommend this experience to any Austinite's or foodies visiting town. Matt and I love going to Central Market, a large grocery store in Central Austin, and grabbing a snack while we listen to the live music they have on their pretty patio.

My high school friend Kiley came to town for South By Southwest. Kiley and I had brunch and drove around town as we reconnected on a beautiful Saturday morning.

In March, Matt got on Craigslist the day of and came up with these cheap and awesome second row tickets to the NCAA March Madness Regional held in Austin. We saw two games, Jeff Van Gundy, and an exciting Minnesota win.

We enjoy this weird little city we call home! Come visit us so we can show you why!
